Eugene man charged in robbery and shooting near East 30th Ave

EUGENE, Ore. – A 21-year-old Eugene man has been charged in connection with a Sept. 3 shooting that happened in the area of East 30th Avenue and Spring Boulevard, according to the Eugene Police Department.

Police said that Zachery John Padgett reportedly robbed a 35-year-old victim of a backpack and then shot him in a nearby wooded area. The victim was able to escape to the roadway for help, police officials said. The arrest took place on Sept. 18 after Padgett, who was possibly armed, was located in a heavily wooded area. According to Eugene Police, Padgett, 21, was safely detained at East 27th Avenue and Central Boulevard with the help of a local resident.
