A message sent by a Springfield Municipal Jail administrator to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer that an inmate had been released earlier in the day and offering to answer “any questions” appears to violate the state’s sanctuary law, said a local attorney asked by Lookout Eugene-Springfield to review the email.
ICE did not immediately detain the person, according to the agency’s records, and Springfield police say the email sent in March did nothing more than provide information available to the general public.
“Subject posted bail and was released today. If you have any questions you can call me at the number listed,” Tom Rappé, who has since retired as Springfield’s top jail administrator, said in the message sent March 10 to an ICE agent…
