EUGENE, Ore. — Greenhill Humane Society is sharing a “Happy Tail” story featuring Nellie (“Pearl”) and Hank.
Nellie came into Greenhill as a stray kitten with two of her siblings in late August. She had a fever, was covered in fleas, underweight, and her left eye was crusted shut. Despite her lack of human interaction, she was gentle and easy for staff to handle.
After receiving medical treatment, she went into foster with her siblings where they steadily gained weight and became playful and active.
Nellie had made progress getting used to humans in foster, but was still a bit hesitant to interact with strangers when she returned to the shelter. In just a few days through, she settled in and showed how mighty her little meow is. She became very vocal and let staff know if they needed to give her attention while they were interacting with other cats nearby…
