A supplemental budget passed by Springfield City Council on Oct. 6 eliminates the need for service reductions at a fire station on Main Street.
Springfield’s proposed 2026 budget had called for a temporary reduction in staffing during off-peak times at Fire Station 14 to make up for a budget gap. Eugene Springfield Fire Chief Mike Caven had previously told Lookout Eugene-Springfield it would be “the first time in modern history that on either side, we’ve had to contend with a service level reduction in our fire resources.”
On Oct. 9, Caven told Lookout Eugene-Springfield he appreciated the city “working through the problem and council approving a solution that keeps our service intact.”…
