Ecological burn in Lane County aims to save prairie habitats

EUGENE, Ore. – Lane County Parks, alongside the Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah and Rivers to Ridges partners, is conducting a prescribed burn today at the Howard Buford Recreation Area.

This ecological burn aims to enhance and preserve the native prairie and oak savanna habitats in the Willamette Valley, Lane County officials said. According to Lane County Parks, weather conditions such as humidity and wind are being monitored to ensure safety standards, including air quality, are met. If conditions change, updates will be provided through media notifications and social media channels.

Several trails will be temporarily closed due to the burn. Trails 46, 6, and 2 will also be closed on Oct. 16, while the east trailhead and parking lot on Ridgeway Road will remain closed until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18…
