Eugene Police to maintain service, enforce rules amid planned free speech event

EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Police Department states it has been made aware of a “Protest Police Brutality” event planned as part of a nationwide event at its 300 Country Club headquarters at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

The headquarters is a public building and Eugene Police is putting provisions in place “to facilitate a free speech area and to maintain regular service to the public conducting official police business at the facility,” the department says.

From 1:30 p.m. October 22, until the event has concluded (no time has been provided, EPD says), visitors to the building will see meridian barricades at the entrance with the gate, which will be staffed to allow regular business (police vehicles and individuals conducting business) into the facility’s lot…
