University of Oregon sued for $16.3M over campus tree falling, paralyzing former student

A former student is seeking up to $16.3 million in a lawsuit filed against the University of Oregon after a tree fell on them during a 2025 storm and left them paraplegic.

During a wind storm on Feb. 24, a tree fell on Olivia Rose Edwards while she was walking near University Hall. The incident left her with “severe and permanent injuries” including fractures to her spine, hips, ribs, legs, ankle, elbow and wrist, according to the complaint.
