Colombian national accused in multi-state burglary ring targeting Asian business owners

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Columbian national made his first appearance in federal court for his alleged role in a multi-state burglary ring.

Derinson Martinez-Grandas, 34, is accused of conspiring with six others and burglarizing homes in Oregon and Washington. All of them are believed to be Columbian nationals.

They carried out the thefts by travelling from state-to-state and staying in Airbnbs to surveil and perform reconnaissance on their targets, who were all Asian business owners.

“This multi-state operation deliberately targeted hardworking families and struck at the very core of personal safety – the victims’ own homes – instilling fear throughout multiple communities,” U.S. Attorney Scott Bradford said in a press release.

According to court documents, Martinez-Grandas and his crew are accused of burglarizing a home in Auburn, Washington on Oct. 3, followed by another in Eugene, Oregon on Oct. 6. They also hit another home in Salem, Oregon on Oct. 9…
