EUGENE, Ore. — The government shutdown, in its 38th day as of Friday, brings with it a lapse in congressional authorization for the FEMA-run National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) which is sparking concern among those working in the housing market in Lane County.
NFIP typically provides lower cost flood insurance, a requirement for most property owners with federally backed loans in floodplains — which is land near bodies of water.
Right now, the shutdown has put a pause on issuing new or renewed policies, and the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation (DFR) says people could also see delays in claim payouts…
