EUGENE, Ore. — Bethel School District Superintendent Kraig Sproles said the recently-announced closure of Shasta Middle School has been under consideration for months, after years of looking at ways to combat a $1.8 million budget shortfall.
“What is unique about Bethel is we’ve started thinking about this several years ago. So, we’ve been taking steps, so the adjustment that we need to make is slightly smaller than the adjustments that you’ll see other school districts making in the months — and then the next couple years — to come,” Sproles said.
