Eugene man testifies in D.C. on soaring health care premiums

EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene man is sharing his story in Washington, D.C., highlighting the real-life impact of rising health care costs.

Bartley Armitage, a former construction worker, and his wife Carla, a former teacher, are facing a significant increase in their health insurance premiums. The couple, who have raised three children, were shocked to learn that their premiums could rise from around $400 to more than $2,200 per month in 2026. Armitage described the financial strain this would cause.

“Nobody wants to pay that kind of bill for one month, and most can’t afford it. A bill like that is like having to pay for two houses. We are worried we will have to deplete our retirement savings to pay for our health care,” said Armitage…
