Porch pirates prepare to do their own holiday shopping

EUGENE, Ore. — As consumers wind down from Black Friday and Cyber Monday, millions of purchases on their way to awaiting recipients become susceptible to what’s known as last mile thefts — or porch piracy.

That’s when a package is stolen after being delivered outside of a home or a business.

The thieves amp up their activity during the holiday season, with a 20 percent increase in package thefts outside of homes, according to the Eugene Police Department…
