University of Oregon denies negligence in $16.3M fallen tree lawsuit

University of Oregon has responded to a $16.3 million lawsuit filed by a former student who was injured when a tree fell on her earlier this year.

During a wind storm on Feb. 24, a tree fell on Olivia Rose Edwards while she was walking near University Hall. The incident left her with “severe and permanent injuries” including fractures to her spine, hips, ribs, legs, ankle, elbow and wrist, according to a complaint filed on Oct. 28.

In its response filed Dec. 2, UO denied any fault or negligence as alleged in Edwards’ complaint, according to court records…
