Oregon – The air is thick with mist across Eugene this morning, and the sound of steady rain echoes through the valley — a calm beginning to what could become an increasingly active stretch of December weather. Umbrellas are a must through the weekend, but next week’s rain could bring much more than damp commutes.
The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Hydrologic Outlook, warning that a strong atmospheric river will push into southwest Washington and northwest Oregon from December 8–10. The system could bring several inches of rain, rapid river rises, and possible urban and small-stream flooding. Soils are already saturated from repeated storms, increasing the potential for landslides in steep terrain and flooding along the Coast Range and Willamette Valley rivers…
