Lane County health study finds kids gambling at young age

EUGENE, Ore. – A recent health study in Lane County has unveiled a growing concern, with children as young as sixth graders reportedly engaging in gambling activities. The 2024 study highlights that young students are actively participating in betting and gambling.

“Kids are really primed for gambling,” Dr. Jocelyn Warren said. “I think we know that, but to actually have it kind of raised as an issue, it is different and really draws parents’ attention to it in a new way that’s important.”

The ease of access to betting apps and games via smartphones is a significant factor, “[it’s] as soon as a child has a phone in their hand,” Warren said…
