Wrongful death lawsuit filed after worker crushed, killed by logs in Eugene

A personal representative for the estate of Colton Brant, a 29-year-old Linn County man who died Nov. 1, 2024, following a train derailment at the Greenhill Reload Main Yard in Eugene, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Coos Bay Rail Line, the International Port of Coos Bay, and a local railroad and salvage company.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed in the Lane County Circuit Court on Dec. 5, Brant was helping move three railcars loaded with logs out of the Greenhill Reload Main Yard. Another person was operating a Trackmobile pulling the three loaded railcars, while Brant was riding on its exterior side.

One of the railcars derailed and overturned. The logs on the railcar were not secured and spilled off the railcar. Brant was crushed when the railcar tipped over, according to the lawsuit…
