1 dead in early Saturday morning house fire in Springfield

One person is dead following a house fire in the early morning hours of Dec. 13 in Springfield, according to the Eugene Springfield Fire department.

According to a statement from ESF, fire crews were dispatched to a reported house fire at Riviera Court, a cul-de-sac with five homes in northwest Springfield, just before 4 a.m. A resident of the home called for help, saying their house was on fire and one other person living in the house was unaccounted for.

According to ESF, Engine 5 from the Gateway fire station arrived at 3:59 a.m. and crew members witnessed a fire in the garage. Firefighters, later joined by their colleagues from other crews, deployed a hose line and searched the garage, where visibility was low and the space was cluttered. Firefighters found the victim and transported them to Sacred Heart Riverbend hospital, but they died from their injuries shortly after getting there…
