EUGENE, Ore. – A 41-year-old Eugene man was arrested on Monday afternoon following a tense standoff with police that necessitated an area evacuation, according to the Eugene Police Department.
EPD officials said they responded shortly before 3 p.m. on Dec. 15 to a reported dispute between a man and a woman in the 900 block of West 7th Avenue. A suspect, identified as Ryan Alan Cooley was named as the man involved, police said. Authorities said that he reportedly had access to a bat and a knife, and appeared intoxicated. Cooley initially agreed to be handcuffed but then retreated inside, attempting to provoke police and threatening self-harm. Nearby residents were advised to shelter in place as the situation unfolded.
