Eugene completes permanent infrastructure upgrades at Hilyard Street shelter

Eugene, OR – Earlier this year, the City of Eugene, in partnership with the Eugene Water & Electric Board and Nightingale Hosted Shelters, completed permanent water, electric, and sewer upgrades at a shelter site on City-owned property at Hilyard Street and 34th Avenue.

Officials said the improvements significantly enhance safety, sanitation, and year-round livability for residents experiencing homelessness. The site provides temporary shelter and fosters a supportive community for individuals in need.

With funding from a one-time State Shelter and Housing Grant, additional grants, and donations from Nightingale supporters, the project delivered electricity to individual sleeping huts, a fully equipped kitchen, two shower houses constructed by SquareOne Villages, a renovated warming and cooling shelter, and permanent water and sewer connections, replacing temporary portable services…
