Fallen tree lawsuit to go to trial

A lawsuit against the University of Oregon for injuries sustained by a student after a falling tree struck her is set to go to trial with a twelve-person jury on September 16.

Olivia Rose Edwards was struck by a falling tree in February, which left her paraplegic and with accumulated medical expenses of $1.3 million and an estimated $5 million in future expenses.

The collapse occurred during a prolonged windstorm between Friendly and Fenton Hall. The suit alleges that UO should have used its alert system to warn students of the potential hazards created by the windstorm and that the university denied a forensic arborist to examine the fallen tree by disposing of it after the incident…
