EUGENE, Ore. — A Eugene Police Department sergeant’s name was recently used again by scammers, Eugene PD said Monday.
This time, instead of a warrant scam, the scammers used his name to threaten the victim with arrest. The victim reported using a dating app and speaking with a female. A man then contacted him and advised the female was 17 and he would be arrested, but could settle with the female’s father for $1,500. The app only allows people age 18 or over to have a profile and the victim knew something was off, so wisely called police.
“Police Calling” is a blatant and persistent scam,” EPD said. “We had a similar cycle of these scams in May 2024 and November 2024.”…
