Local sneakerheads speak out about ‘biggest scam in history’ after sentencing

EUGENE, Ore. (KOIN) — A once-popular sneaker reseller is set to go to federal prison for his role in a fraud conspiracy that affected prospective buyers and banks.Michael Malekzadeh ran Eugene-based Zadeh Kicks and is now staring down 70 months in a federal prison plus five years supervised release. It is a scam that spanned two years and led to charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud in 2022, a guilty plea in 2025, and that sentence this week. But the effects of the scam are still lingering in the sneaker resell community.“It is the biggest scam in sneaker history, 100%,” Cadence Klindt of Eugene’s Sneakorhead said.More than $65 million was scammed from prospective buyers, and another $15 million from banks off altered financial statements.
