The Eugene Police Department arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed Merle Dean Sheffield, 63, on Jan. 4 near the intersection of Highway 99 and Side Street in Eugene.
Just after 5:30 p.m., Eugene police received a report that a man riding a bicycle in front of the Lindholm Service Center was hit by a car, Melinda McLaughlin, spokesperson for the Eugene Police Department, said. The man was found unconscious in the roadway and transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The suspect was booked at the Lane County Jail on Jan. 7 on one count of hit-and-run involving a vehicle injury. The Register-Guard does not generally publish the identity of suspects who have not been arraigned on charges in court…
