Air quality alert: Eugene residents urged to limit wood stove use

LANE COUNTY, Ore. – The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency has issued a yellow wood stove advisory for Eugene and Springfield, effective through Sunday. The advisory comes as a strong winter air stagnation event develops over the Willamette Valley.

According to LRAPA, residents are encouraged to avoid using wood stoves when possible to reduce smoke buildup.

“Think of the Willamette Valley like a pot with a lid on it,” said Matt Sorensen, Public Affairs Manager. “During an air stagnation event, smoke from every chimney, car, and odor is trapped and can quickly turn into really bad air quality.”…
