Eugene School District 4J will eliminate over 100 positions and cut some well-loved programs to balance its budget.
The 4J school board voted unanimously in favor of the district’s Phase II budget cuts, which include cuts to programs like Eugene Online Academy (EOA) and Center for Applied Learning and Community Impact (CALCI). The decision also authorizes a reduction in force of up to 55 full-time equivalent licensed staff, 72 FTE classified staff and 32 FTE Managers, Administrators, Professionals and Supervisors (MAPS).
“There just aren’t words to explain how we feel about this,” said 4J board chair Tom Di Liberto. “I think we’re doing a very difficult job in the best way we know … in a sense I’m proud of that, but I still feel pretty helpless.”…
