Witnesses report speeding in fatal Eugene crash near campus, police say

EUGENE, Ore. – Police responded to an incident Sunday afternoon to a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash in south Eugene, according to the Eugene Police Department.

EPD officials said the crash occurred at 12:39 p.m. on Jan. 25 at the intersection of East 22nd Avenue and Patterson Street, near the Spencer View Apartments. Multiple witnesses were present at the scene and promptly alerted authorities. One witness reported that the vehicle appeared to be traveling at least 45 miles per hour on a street marked for 20 miles per hour.

“Yeah, we just had a vehicle pedestrian crash… pedestrian is deceased,” said Sgt. Kyle Williams with the Eugene Police Department. “The driver stayed on scene, and our crash team is on the way to complete a thorough investigation.”…
