Openings and closures continue to sweep through Eugene as we move into February. Two Lane County favorites, Mandy’s Family Restaurant and The Washburne Café, are opening second locations in Eugene and Springfield. This means more pie, milkshakes, pancakes and coffee for everyone.
In other news, Boris Weidenfeld-Needham is moving to close the Whiteaker location of Bo’s Wine Depot and his wine and jazz bar, Nero. But Nero fans know though this is the end of a chapter, it isn’t the end of Wiedenfeld-Needham’s story. He hopes to open Nero 2.0 in the future.
Nero in the Whiteaker to close
Boris Wiedenfeld-Needham can’t work 70 hours a week anymore. He’s been open about his fight with cancer and has come to the conclusion he can’t run his store anymore because he can’t lift a case of wine on his own. That’s why he’s moving to close the Whiteaker location of Bo’s, but with his wine and jazz bar Nero, it’s a whole different story.
“The bar I can handle by myself,” he said. “I have a very big abdominal surgery coming up in the spring, and the last time I had one like that it took me nine months to a year to recover so I could walk right. So the bar is going into storage…. and then as soon as I am back on my feet, I’m going to rebuild it.”…
