Philomath’s Pettit earns 4th at Cottage Grove wrestling tournament

Junior Alexis Pettit placed fourth at 100 pounds and Philomath as a team ended up 15th out of the 40 schools participating on Friday and Saturday at the Cottage Grove Invitational.

Pettit went 2-2 over the two-day tournament. She fell to Nola McNamara of Grants Pass by pin in 1:21 in the quarterfinals before advancing through the consolation bracket. Pettit pinned Jazzmine Sanchez of North Douglas in 1:27, then defeated Elice Hoadley of Grants Pass by pin in 2:24 in the consolation semifinals. Her tournament ended with a loss to Emmerson Jarman of Scappoose in the third-place match.

Freshman Rielly Ellingsen took sixth place at 115 pounds with a 3-2 record. After losing to Haedyn Hill of Elmira by pin in 1:25, Ellingsen won three consecutive consolation matches — pinning Jaylee Tripp of Cottage Grove in 0:40, Amina Palacios of Marshfield in 3:24, and Khloe Anderson of St. Helens in 1:31. She was pinned by Audrie Sanchez of Grants Pass in the consolation semifinals before a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match…
