Penn State had a chance to put more distance between itself and last place in the Big Ten when it faced fellow conference laggard Oregon in Eugene Saturday afternoon. But the Nittany Lions could not capitalize, dropping a 83-72 decision to the Ducks to tumble back down into the league basement.
PSU was once again its own worst enemy, allowing an Oregon outfit that struggles to score to tally 20 points off turnovers. The Ducks also took advantage of State’s notoriously soft perimeter defense, making 14-of-27 3-pointers while surpassing 77 points for only the second time in Big Ten play.
Freshman guard Kayden Mingo was strong for the Lions in defeat, but his career-high-matching 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting were not enough to offset the team’s sloppy play…
