Lane County fugitive Jack Crist caught in Chico after 2-year hunt

CHICO, Calif. – Detectives with the Chico Police Department arrested 48-year-old Jack Duane Crist, 48, of Florence, on Feb. 17, in Chico, Calif. According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Crist was wanted in Lane County for a first-degree rape conviction.

Crist’s arrest follows a nearly two-year search across multiple states. In 2023, he entered a guilty plea for first-degree rape and first-degree attempted rape. He failed to appear for sentencing in 2024, prompting a warrant for his arrest. Detectives tracked Crist through several states, including Missouri and Arizona, before locating him in Chico.

Crist was taken into custody without incident and is being held in Butte County Jail pending extradition to Oregon. Authorities believe Crist used aliases Zane Carson or Jack Watson while in hiding. Anyone with information or who may have been victimized by Crist is urged to contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office…
