A second-alarm fire broke out at a home tucked into a residential neighborhood near the intersection of Russet Drive and Fir Acres Drive in Eugene on Feb. 20, sending black smoke into the air that was visible to area residents and drivers on Delta Highway.
The fire was first reported just after 1:30 p.m. as a home and shop fire. When they arrived on scene, fire units quickly called for backup and upgraded the response to a second alarm. Eugene Springfield Battalion Chief Jacob Brueckner described the home as a “total loss” and said a cat died at the scene.
“It’s a pretty total loss,” Brueckner told reporters. “There was unfortunately one cat that did not make it. There’s been no injuries reported and one person is displaced.”…
