Springfield schools superintendent gets a year’s salary as he heads out the door

Springfield Public School’s top administrator is leaving the district with a parting gift.

Outgoing superintendent Todd Hamilton will receive a year’s salary — likely more than $269,000 — in exchange for agreeing not to sue the district or board members, according to his resignation agreement. Lookout Eugene-Springfield obtained the agreement through a public records request.

Hamilton and the district both gave up their rights to sue each other “and all their agents and representatives” for matters related to Hamilton’s employment or resignation. This includes the claims of defamation, retaliation and breaking whistleblower protection law as mentioned in Hamilton’s tort claim notice filed in December, a document outlining his intention to sue the district over those things…
