The Springfield City Council started the process of choosing a new member following the resignation of Ward 4 Councilor Beth Blackwell at the end of December. She was the second councilor to resign in 2025.
Six residents from Ward 4 submitted applications and council members will interview all candidates April 6. Councilors will choose an interim member April 20 and swear that person in the following week. The appointed interim councilor will serve through the end of 2026.
