Eugene Emergency Physicians sue PeaceHealth over alleged illegal contract termination

LANE COUNTY, Ore. — Eugene Emergency Physicians say they aren’t at fault for long-term problems in the Emergency Room at PeaceHealth Riverbend, saying the issue is hospital beds and lack of nurses, making their loss of a contract with PeaceHealth unwarranted.

“We’re seeing patients in hall beds. We’re seeing them in former closets, former vending machine areas. The primary impediment to flow through in our department is not physician management processes. It has to do with bed availability of hospital beds, availability of beds in the emergency department and availability of nurses.” Dr. Dan McGee said.

In November, PeaceHealth began the process of allowing other companies to bid for the contract that EEP held for 35 years at PeaceHealth’s Springfield and Cottage Grove locations…
