EUGENE, Ore. – Eugene Police deployed officers over the weekend for focused enforcement along Highway 99, contacting eight people with substance abuse issues who all chose treatment over jail.
The operation targeted crime issues reported by residents and businesses in the Highway 99 corridor. Officers offered deflection to people hanging out in front of businesses, trespassing on private property and blocking sidewalks.
Five contacts involved possession of fentanyl, two involved possession of methamphetamine and one involved criminal trespass with evidence of active intoxication from methamphetamine. One contact alone resulted in the seizure of more than 10 grams of methamphetamine…
