Cascades under a winter storm watch from Tuesday to Thursday – gusts up to 45 mph

At 12:32 p.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service released a winter storm watch valid from Tuesday 5 p.m. until Thursday 5 a.m. for North Oregon Cascades, Cascades of Marion and Linn counties and Cascades of Lane County.

“Heavy snow possible above 3500 ft. Total snow accumulations between 9 to 18 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph,” describes the weather service. “Latest guidance suggests the heaviest snow accumulations are forecast over the Cascades from Marion to Lane counties.”

“Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous,” states the weather service. “Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.”
