EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The Evansville Police Department is responding to online criticism after a major drug bust.
On Tuesday police seized 40lbs of marijuana after a traffic stop. The arrest sparked debate on the department’s Facebook page with some people arguing it was just weed.

That’s largely because recreational marijuana is legal in Illinois and medical marijuana is legal in both Illinois and Kentucky. However, police say marijuana is often tied to more serious crimes they investigate including robberies and homicides.
Back in April, a 23-year-old died in a shooting outside the AMC Theater on the west side of Evansville. Police say that shooting stemmed from a weed deal gone wrong.

“It was just THC vapes, so it was just essentially marijuana that led to a young man losing his life and ultimately two lives that are changed forever,” says EPD Sgt. Anthony Aussieker. “There’s such a link between marijuana drug crimes and violent crime, realistically more than any other illicit drugs we have in Evansville.”…
