EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Mayse Farm Market is hosting a sunflower and sweet corn pop-up event Sunday, drawing community members to rows of sunflowers, fresh-picked sweet corn, food trucks, and a walk-in flower field.
An early harvest prompted a last-minute plan
Rachael Blocker of Mayse Farm Market said a warmer-than-usual year pushed crops ahead of schedule, prompting the decision to host the event with only a few days’ notice.
“This year everything is early. Our sweet corn was early, our flowers are early, so we decided to celebrate and have a sunflower and sweet corn event because we had so much sweet corn that came in, and then we had a beautiful field of flowers that came in at the same time,” Blocker said.
The farm typically targets August for events of this kind, but timing this year changed those plans…
