HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Several animal cruelty cases have been thrown out in Henderson following investigations in which evidence was mishandled by animal control.
On Monday, Henderson Animal Control admitted it made a mistake in an animal cruelty investigation back in July. Henderson County Attorney Steven Gold says that mistake was not the first of its kind.
Henderson Animal Control changes approach to investigations
In a letter to Laurie Miller, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Henderson, Gold said the attorney’s office will no longer accept investigatory reports in animal cruelty or torture cases conducted by animal control. Gold says investigations led by the agency compromised the ability to prosecute several cases.
Back in July, Gold says an animal control officer illegally seized a dead dog’s remains from a home without getting a search warrant. The dog was returned and buried by the owners. Once a search warrant was obtained, the dog’s corpse was exhumed, and a necropsy was performed…
