ROCKPORT, Ind. (WEHT) – Over 1,000 rubber ducks were used for the “French Island Marina and Boat Club first ever quack quest. Organizer Rhonda Smith says the idea for the fundraiser came from a dream.“Ducks are big,” says Smith. “You see ducks and jeeps, you see the kids getting ducks, you see ducks and arcades. And I thought, you know what? Ducks. Everybody loves a duck.”Smith was correct with event almost selling out. People could purchase 10 fake shotgun shells for $20.They would then enter the field and hunt for 10 ducks. The space features cornfields, ponds, and a boat.Close to 1,000 cases were sold. People of all ages went hunting, showing off their favorite catches.40% of the money will be used for cash prizes for two winners whose ducks will be drawn.The remaining 60% will go towards the club’s upkeep like sewage and gravel.Organizers say they are already looking to the future ready to go bigger.“I think it will be bigger and better next year,” says Smith.
“Yes, absolutely,” agrees club member Stephanie Thomas. “I think bigger and better next year for maybe 2000 next year.”…
