The Mount Vernon Wildcats ended a decade-long postseason drought Friday night, October 23, with a dominating 49-6 victory over Corydon Central in the opening round of the IHSAA football sectionals. The win marked Mount Vernon’s first sectional victory since 2015 and sends the Wildcats into a second-round matchup with Evansville Mater Dei.
Mount Vernon wasted little time taking control. After stopping Corydon Central on its opening possession and blocking a punt, senior Eastin Hall broke free for a 20-yard touchdown run. Hall added a 19-yard scoring run later in the first quarter, and junior Saint Henderson followed with a 40-yard touchdown run to give the Wildcats a commanding 21-0 lead after one quarter.
