Evansville mayor creates interfaith council

EVANSVILLE, In. (WEHT) – Evansville mayor Stephanie Terry has created an Interfaith Council for the city. It will consist of faith leaders from across the cultural and religious spectrum in Evansville, including Eyewitness News’ Lifestyles host Ange Humphrey, who is an ordained minister.

Officials say this council formalizes existing relationships between community faith leaders and the city. They say the main goal is to bring everyone together and build a community that supports everyone.

“We are going to go out into the community, we will go into these houses of worship to convene and to talk, to pray together,” says Mayor Terry. “I don’t know if there is any mayor that can say that they had twelve faith leaders standing in their office assembled and praying together; that’s what we did last Friday and it was a moving, just a moving experience.”

Mayor Terry says the council will focus on community issues such as housing, food access and more.
