HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry and Chief of Police Philip Smith have announced Nathan Hassler as the next Assistant Chief of the Evansville Police Department.
Officials say Assistant Chief Hassler is a graduate of the Southwestern Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, class 10-8. Upon completion of the police academy Hassler was assigned as a motor patrol officer in Evansville’s West sector. During his time in motor patrol, he served in Mobile Field Force, Gang Task Force and as a Field Training Officer.
Assistant Chief Smith promoted to Chief of Police
Police say in 2016 Hassler was promoted to Detective and assigned to the Meth Suppression Unit. A short time later, Hassler earned his certification as a Clandestine Laboratory Investigator from the Drug Enforcement Administration in Quantico, Virginia. Hassler was promoted to Sergeant in June of 2021 and supervised motor patrol officers on Evansville’s west side until he was transferred to supervise detectives in the Evansville-Vanderburgh Joint Drug Task Force.
