ROCKPORT, In. (WEHT) – A new partnership ensures children in Spencer County will have access to after-school programs, courtesy of the Boys & Girls Club of Evansville and CenterPoint Energy. The two organizations have teamed up to open the CenterPoint Energy Boys & Girls Club in Rockport.
Rockport Elementary School was very close to losing its after-school programs, but officials say that is no longer the case, thanks to the club. The programs planned for the kids revolve around STEM, with a focus on academics.

Ron Ryan, executive director for the Boys & Girls Club, says they average 85 kids a day and have over 160 members in Spencer County so far. “All we want to do is serve more kids; so being able to serve 85 kids a day, being able to give them a snack everyday, give them STEM classes, trying to improve them in the classroom, that’s what we want to do, and in the meantime, hopefully, move into more schools.”
