Evansville police make arrest in shooting of a motorist

Evansville police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a motorist early Sunday morning.

Jason D. Goss Jr., is charged with three counts of attempted murder in the incident, according to the Evansville Police Department.

The man who was shot − who has not been identified by authorities − was injured but still alive as of Thursday.

Officers found the victim inside a parked vehicle just after 12:50 a.m. Sunday near the Lloyd Expressway and Lemcke Avenue after a passenger called 911. A passenger told dispatchers someone had fired three shots at the man, at least one of which struck the driver in the head, police records state.

The victim was conscious and alert while paramedics tended to his injuries early Sunday morning, EPD Sgt. Anna Gray said earlier this week. He was taken to a local hospital for further treatment.

On Thursday, EPD issued a statement providing more details about the shooting.

“Two passengers were also inside the vehicle during the time of the shooting, however, they were not injured,” the statement said. “During this investigation, it was found that the victim had been involved in an altercation at a local bar on Franklin (Street) prior to being shot.”
