On alert for snow Monday night, early Tuesday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -A winter weather advisory for snow is in effect for most of the Tri-State from Monday evening through Tuesday morning. A weather system will ride up from the south and bring rain across the area on Monday. As the low pressure pulls east of the region, sharply colder air will wrap in behind and change the rain over to snow. The transition is expected to be fairly brief, but the combination of moisture and lift may generate a short period of heavy snowfall rates. The main hazard would be low visibility and slick spots on roads. Surface temps will be near or above freezing, so most accumulation will occur on grassy areas and elevated surfaces. An inch or two is possible wherever the rain/snow transition sets up. Skies will clear on Tuesday, and temps will climb back into the middle 50s for the middle of the week.
