HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Chief Bryan Coghill has been with the Corydon Civil Defense Fire & Rescue for over 23 years.
A Henderson County native, Chief Coghill says that fighting fires runs in the family. “My grandfather was former chief of German Township Fire Department, and my dad the chief of Smith Mills Fire Department so (I was) kind of following my dad around growing up.”
Chief Coghill says that spending time around firefighters also influenced him to become one. “Going around with him, some of the guys that were chiefs and stuff then kind of help influence you.”

When it comes to the most difficult part of firefighting, Chief Coghill says the toughest part is dealing with fire incidents that involve children or any loss of life.
On the other hand, Chief Coghill says the best part of his job is any chance to educate and provide hands-on learning experiences for children. “Kids’ safety events, PR events where you can see the kids’ faces light up, they can see the fire trucks and see the equipment, spray the water.”
