Newburgh woman accused of having more than 500 syringes in car

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — A Newburgh woman was arrested after police in Evansville said they found more than 500 syringes in her car.

Police said they responded to reports of a woman slumped over the wheel of a van at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Elliot Street around 6:30 Friday night.

Police said they spoke with the driver, identified as Rebecca Gonzalez.

According to an affidavit, Gonzalez’s pupils were dilated and she had slurred speech.

An officer said they noticed whiter powder around her nostrils and on her hands.

When asked about the white powder, police said she told them she had been eating donuts. Officers said a cut straw with a white residue was sitting in plain sight.

Police searched the van and said they found 585 syringes. According to police, they also found cocaine, meth, heroin, a morphine pill, fentanyl and marijuana in the van.

Gonzalez faces several charges.
