Prosecution alleges a love affair is the motive in Fox-Doerr murder case

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – More than five years after the murder of Robert Doerr, his wife, Elizabeth Fox-Doerr, stands trial, charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

On the first day of the trial, we saw police body camera footage, of the minutes following officers’ arrival at the crime scene.

Opening arguments begin with the prosecutor, Diana Moers, previewing the evidence that will be presented in the coming days. The state presents, what they say, is part of the motive for murder, that Elizabeth Fox-Doerr was engaging in an extramarital love affair with her sister’s fiance, Larry Richmond Sr.

Moers says, “On the night of February 26th, 2019, the defendant was in her kitchen, while her lover, co-conspirator, Larry Richmond Sr. was outside of her home in the alleyway. They talked on the phone that night and finalized their plans to kill her husband, Robert Doerr.”

Lead defense attorney, Mark Phillips, says in his opening argument, “There will be no evidence, that Doerr had any conversation with anyone, about killing anyone. That doesn’t exist.”
