Evansville man to stand trial in grandmother’s death in July

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An Evansville man accused of murdering his grandmother will stand trial in July.

Court documents show the trial of John Stevens will begin on July 8. Stevens was arrested in 2022 after authorities say he called 911 saying he found his grandmother, Betty Stevens, dead. The coroner ruled her death

Authorities say they found her credit cards and mail inside of Stevens’ backpack, and he had her blood on his shirt. The coroner ruled Betty Stevens’ cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

Stevens was found competent to stand trial in August.
